About the South Eugene Nordic Ski Team
The SEHS Nordic Ski Team is a community club team that has permission to use the SEHS school name, although ski team activities are independent from and receive no funding, services, or supervision from the school or district. Nordic skiing at SEHS is open to any high schooler interested in learning, training, and racing in a supportive team environment.
We are independently run and funded by dedicated volunteer coaches and parents who make the program possible. The team focuses on fun, personal growth, outdoor adventure, and building a strong community whether athletes are brand new to skiing or experienced racers.
We train throughout the fall and winter, starting with dry land conditioning, on-snow practices, and races across Oregon.
What Is Nordic Skiing?
(Nordic (cross-country) builds endurance, strength, and technical skill, and it’s accessible to beginners. Many athletes join the team with no prior skiing experience.
Two styles:
Classic: skis in parallel tracks; middle part of the skin is sticky to grip and propel forward, while the ends have glide wax.
Skate: V-shaped, similar shape to ice skating, the whole ski has glide wax, on wide groomed trails
